Deity was a collaborative project between art collector, Subhashok Angsuvarnsiri and artist Vipoo Srivilasa. Their partnership began when Srivilasa was introduced to Mr Angsuvarnsiri’s private collection of Thai antique artefacts. One object captured Srivilasa imagination; an antique painter’s frame. The wooden frame was intricately hand-carved with delicate flower patterns. Its purpose, to display religious paintings on an altar.
In Deity, Srivilasa employed Mr Angsuvarnsiri’s team of artisans to construct ornately carved and gilded wooden frames to house the artists enigmatic deity sculptures.
Srivilasa’s uniquely decorative, porcelain figures inhabit individual altars as if performing on a theatrical stage.
