Hautes Grecians, a premier haute couture event in Athens, spotlighted a groundbreaking collection by Greek-Australian designer Jordan Gogos. Fusing ancestral relics, Greek tourist motifs, and local textiles, Gogos' wearable designs reimagined Greek identity through avant-garde craftsmanship. Created on-site with his team, the collection celebrated mythology, heritage, and innovation, offering a sculptural, modern take on tradition. This showcase emphasized Greece's influence on global fashion while honoring its cultural roots.
Gogos presented his 13-piece collection which reflected themes of Hellenism across time, showcasing bold, intricate garments that celebrated heritage and identity. Influenced greatly by the physical manifestions of nostalgia and the rituals of cleaning and collecting relics from his cultural past, his visit was greatly charged by the past and present.
“I feel like everything I pick up is layered with history, culture and symbolism. There are layers and layers of meaning in one single object, whether it’s something from my ancestry or something I’ve picked up in a shop. Whereas when I work in Australia, I feel I have to create that meaning. So, in many ways, I feel a bit more like a curator in what I’m doing here. I’m arranging all these symbols and references, not actually creating meaning from scratch.”
