N.Smith Gallery seeks an Artist Liaison to join its Sydney gallery team.The Artist Liaison will work with the Director and Exhibition Coordinator to support our represented artists, playing a pivotal role in assisting artists with their needs. This position requires a candidate who can seamlessly navigate the demands of a dynamic art environment while upholding the highest standards of professionalism and service.The ideal candidate will demonstrate sound judgment across various situations, coupled with superior written and verbal communication, administrative, and organisational abilities. A proactive problem solver is crucial, as the role demands a someone who excels under pressure and anticipates the ongoing needs of both artists and the gallery.

 

Duties include but not limited to:
– Liaise between artists, museums, and the gallery for institutional exhibitions
– Conduct research to develop an in-depth understanding of artists’ practices and effectively communicate this knowledge to staff, clients, and visitors
– Manage artists’ production, exhibition, and fair schedules
– Cultivate and maintain excellent relationships with the represented artists, providing logistical and project management support on behalf of the gallery
– Coordinate publication process for artists’ books, exhibition catalogues, etc
– Ad hoc projects as assigned

 

Qualifications and requirements:
– Previous experience working with an art gallery, auction house, or museum strongly preferred, along with a working knowledge of and passion for contemporary art
– Strong multi-tasking and organisational skills
– The ability to thrive in a creative environment and work independently and as a team when needed
– Must be able to maintain confidentiality and privacy
– Impeccable attention to detail and strong written and oral communication skills
– Flexibility to work some evenings and weekends when necessary
– No task too small mentality
– Excellent computer skills, especially Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), Google Suite and database software
