Kyra Mancktelow wins Telstra NATSIA Award

Kyra Mancktelow has been awarded the Emerging Artist Award at the 2021 Telstra National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Awards.

Kyra Mancktelow's unique printmaking process creates an ink impression from objects the artist makes by hand. In Moongalba II, the artist has made monoprints from the uniforms worn at Myora Mission in the 19th and 20th centuries.

Myora Mission was established as a mission station in 1892 on Minjerribah Country in the colony of Queensland. First Nations children were forced to wear uniforms an attempt at assimilation – a removal of their cultural identity via westernised domestication.
