Turrangka... in the shadows

'James Tylor's expansive practice explores histories of colonisation and its profound impact on Indigenous cultures, particularly the Kaurna people of South Australia. 'Turrangka... in the shadows' surveys a decade of practice, including daguerreotypes, digital photographic series, handmade Kaurna cultural objects, and furniture. The title points to the relationship between light and shadow in photography. As well as shadow, the Kaurna word 'turra' also translates to reflection, image, and mirror. It evokes the concept of working in the shadows and shining a light on untold histories.' - Back cover.
